Exploring the State Fair

Last weekend, we decided to take a little trip to the state fair. We’ve lived in Ohio for almost 5 years, but this is the first time we’ve ever gone to the fair.

Each year I say I’d like to go to the fair, and each year we have a conflict or forget or whatever. But this year we actually made a plan and commitment to go to the fair. And I’m glad we did! It was such fun.

My favorite part of any fair is the food. And the state fair did not disappoint! We had delicious gyros for lunch and a funnel cake snack. It took all of my willpower to not buy a deep fried Oreo or buckeye, but I did manage to resist. Maybe that will be on the list for next year!

Another fair favorite is seeing the animals. We fully explored the chicken, rooster, and duck barn. Smelled awful and was noisy, but the animals were awesome. Who knew there was such a variety of ducks! Or chickens! We also walked through the cow barn. Ian was a bit less impressed, but I liked seeing them. Until I stepped in cow poo. That was awful. Fortunately after a few wipes in the grass my flip flop was as good as new. But I still could have gone without having that happen. We never found the rabbits, so either there weren’t any or we just didn’t look in the right places…but that was a bummer. I love looking at all the bunnies! Oh well…next year, right?

A trip to the Ohio fair isn’t complete without a stop at the butter cow, so we had to get that checked off before we headed out. I have to say, I was impressed.

I don’t know what exactly I was expecting, but I’m not sure that was it. Nevertheless, it was a neat display and well worth fighting the massive crowds of people.

Ian seemed to really enjoy his first state fair experience, and it was a nice day trip for us as a family. Hopefully it won’t be 5 years before we go again!

Do you like going to the fair? When’s the last time you went to one? What was your favorite part?

  1. I love going to the fair. I like to people watch while I munch on a funnel cake. I’ll delve into a few rides but nothing too crazy. I’m stopping by from the blog hop and I’m a new follower on Bloglovin. Happy Sunday.
